ATT Global Network Services

AT&T Virtual Private Network Service (VPNS) consists of the following service components:

Nationwide Dial Access

  • Local dial access to the AT&T VPNS is available from over 400 Points of Presence in the US. See the current Access Numbers list.
  • All modems support the V.34 standard (with speeds up to 28.8 Kbps). 56Kb dial access with V.90 technology is available in most metropolitan areas.
  • Network is engineered to a P.01 standard (less than one percent of all incoming calls receive busy signals) and is built to handle double the peak projected network demand.
  • Intelligent call re-routing technology is used to ensure that every dial user reaches an available modem.
  • Access is via standard PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol). PPP provides a direct connection to AT&T's IP backbone with no underlying protocols that can cause delays.

International Dial Access

  • International dial access is available from 37 countries to U.S. based corporate resources or sites.
  • Global travelers or international remote users can dial into a local in-country point of presence and be connected to the U.S. based site connected to the AT&T VPNS.
  • AT&T VPNS supports dial access to corporate network resources or dedicated sites located in the United States only, including the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands.
  • All international usage charges are aggregated with and appear on the same invoice with domestic usage, contribute to a single contract commitment (MAC), and receive volume or commitment-based discounts, as specified in the current offer.

ISDN Access

  • High-speed (ISDN) access is available via AT&T Toll Free Multimedia 800 Service.
  • Users require a terminal adapter or BRI router, and ISDN service from their local exchange carrier.
  • ISDN access is supported on Basic IP and IP Closed User Group accounts, with single-channel access available for Basic IP and single-channel or multilink PPP access supported for CUG users.
  • Not supported on accounts using Network-Based Tunneling.

High-Speed Dedicated Connections via Frame Relay or Private Line

  • Dedicated access (egress) sites are connected to the AT&T IP backbone through either AT&T Frame Relay Service or AT&T Private Line Service.
  • Frame customers may select a Permanent Virtual Circuit of any size from 56 Kbps to 1024 Kbps.
  • Private line access is available from 56kbps to 1.5Mbps (T1 speed).
