ATT Global Network Services

This page provides information about the following optional features available with AT&T Virtual Private Network Service:

Network Usage Reports

  • Provide online historical data traffic summary reports that track access line utilization and peak activity periods. For sample reports, see https://usage.dedicatedip.att.net.
  • You can graphically display your AT&T VPNS usage on a monthly, weekly, or daily basis. In addition, you can view separate statistics for each of your AT&T VPNS circuits and separate traffic profiles for inbound vs. outbound traffic.
  • Reports Web site is SSL protected. Your data can only be accessed through your password.
  • The usage reports provide detailed information about network utilization as a percentage of available bandwidth, throughout a one-week cycle, based on information collected from your premises equipment using the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) tools.
  • If you are using AT&T VPNS without Managed Router you must grant AT&T SNMP read-only access to your Premises Equipment so that AT&T can gather the requisite data for reporting purposes.

Domain Name Service

  • Lets you store DNS records on servers operated and maintained by AT&T.
  • AT&T performs the technical functions of domain administration for you.
  • The AT&T DNS servers can be queried by any system connected to the AT&T IP Backbone network, even if the connection is indirect (e.g. via the Internet gateway).
  • You can use the AT&T Domain Name Service for all domain names of networks exposed to AT&T VPNS (i.e., InterNIC registered).

Client Software

  • AT&T provides a Connection Manager to help your users connect to the network easily.
  • This package includes a dynamic phone book that updates automatically or on demand so that mobile users will always have access to the AT&T network.
  • It also enables you to select flexible password prompting schemes.
  • Supports Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0; for Windows 3.1 users, we also provide a TCP/IP stack from Network TeleSystems. See Publications/Software.

Network-based Tunneling for Dial Access
See Network-based Tunneling for Dial Access (Optional) on the Security Features page.

Fully Managed Router Service

Overview of Fully Managed Router Service

  • Includes the design and engineering, implementation and ongoing configuration management of an AT&T provided customer premises based edge router, CSU/DSU, modem and access to connect your company's network to the AT&T IP backbone.
  • Addition of new sites, changes in dedicated bandwidth requirements or the addition of new LAN interfaces can be managed by AT&T.
  • The Managed Router Service option extends up to the LAN interface(s) on each your premises-based router and the WAN interface on each CSU/DSU.
  • AT&T will perform a site survey to identify power requirements, space requirements, and access requirements for each site. AT&T will order and install (on behalf of your company) the AT&T Frame Relay Service circuit necessary for delivery of service.
  • AT&T arranges for termination of the circuit in proximity to the planned location of the premises equipment. Any inside wiring charges are your responsibility.
  • You provide one interNIC registered IP address for each router for network management purposes.

Equipment for Fully Managed Router Service

  • With Managed Router Service, AT&T will procure, own and manage the following equipment on a monthly fee basis.
  • Router – A variety of Cisco Series edge routers (e.g., 2500, 4700). Each model is a fixed-configuration router that supports Ethernet and Token Ring interfaces.
  • CSU/DSU (Paradyne)
  • Code Activated Switch (Porter Series, if required)
  • Analog Modem (for out-of-band network management of CPE)
  • Power Surge Protection
  • Includes the maintenance of the equipment, which covers the physical failure of equipment owned and maintained by AT&T Virtual Private Network Service, which includes the Customer Premises based edge routers, CSU/DSUs, modem and cabling connecting managed devices to each other.

Design and Engineering for Fully Managed Router Service

  • Includes design, engineering, project management and implementation of the AT&T Frame Relay or Private Line access and premises based edge router, CSU/DSU and modem.
  • After a formal review of network requirements and network validation, experienced engineers will create an engineering and network design solution.

Operations Management of Fully Managed Router Service

Operations management will include the following functions for the frame relay WAN access of AT&T VPN:

  1. Fully Managed Router Service Network Monitoring, Fault Isolation/Resolution

    • Includes 7 Day by 24 Hour proactive monitoring of the dedicated access and all AT&T provided equipment (router, CSU/DSU and modem) for faults (alarms).

    • The center will proactively and continuously monitor all configured LAN interfaces (ports) to the PVC-interface level.

    • CPE interfaces will be monitored utilizing SNMP techniques both in-band and out-of-band.

    • Any equipment-related fault conditions will be sectionalized and identified as either physical or logical in nature through diagnostic, out-of-band testing of CPE interfaces.

    • You will be provided monthly performance reports for your frame relay network connection.

  2. Fully Managed Router Service Ongoing Configuration Management

    • The dedicated center will perform changes to router configurations to accommodate changes in your LAN environment and provide emergency reconfigurations and upgrades to router software.

    • AT&T will maintain a database of change management information for each managed/maintained device including logical address configurations and software specifications.

    • The center will manage changes made to router access lists, device passwords, and will protect SNMP access via secured community strings.

    • AT&T will remotely perform changes to the routing and filter tables, protocols (including prioritization), and other router parameters with your written request.

    • AT&T will remotely perform all router back-ups via either in-band or out-of-band access.

    • You will receive equipment software updates at the discretion of AT&T.

    • If equipment hardware upgrades are required, the change will be made upon agreement between you and AT&T. There may be an additional cost for hardware upgrades if there is no associated increase in commitment.

    • Notice of software changes is made to your central point of contact.

Optional Features Available with Fully Managed Router Service

  1. Managed Network Address Translation

    • If you want to terminate secure dial access on managed routers, AT&T can provide managed network address translation to simplify service implementation

    • Since the IP Closed User Group and Intracorporate Restricted options require the use of AT&T protected addresses, this option lets you retain your existing addressing scheme on your network.

    • We support static and dynamic network address translation on managed routers.

    • Inbound static NAT supports one-to-one mapping between addresses and is appropriate for accessing a small number of hosts.

    • Up to twenty-five static entries will be supported.

    • Support of inbound dynamic NAT is intended for a medium to large number of incoming dial-up users who can use name servers (DNS or WINS) and who need access to many hosts.

    • This option will be provided with Intracorporate Restricted or Basic IP dedicated access.
  2.
  3. Static Packet Filters

    • If you prefer to use Basic IP (unfiltered) dedicated access, AT&T can support the dial Closed User Group by implementing static packet filters on managed routers.

    • Also appropriate if you are using Managed Router Service
      routers to access AT&T VPN.
